1915 His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) was born in Surat, India on March 6, 1915. His father, Syedna Taher Saifuddin, had predicted that his son would bring honour to Fatemi Dawat (mission of the imam that Dai al- Mutlaq administers).
1933 At the age of nineteen, he was designated successor to the office of al-Dai al-Mutlaq by his father, the 51st Dai al-Mutlaq.
1935 Syedna memorized the entire Quran at the age of 21.
1942 Syedna was conferred the titles of ‘al- Alim ur-Rasikh’ and ‘Umdatul-Ulama el-Muwahedeen’ by his father.
1961 Syedna travelled to Yemen which was seat of Fatemi Dawat for four centuries and home to thousands of Dawoodi Bohras.
1965 After the death Syedna Taher Saifuddin, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) became the 52nd Dai.
1966 Syedna was conferred the degree of ‘Doctor of Islamic Studies’ by Cairo-based Al-Zahra University. In the same year, he was conferred an honorary degree, ‘Doctor of Theology’ by Aligarh Muslim University, India, in recognition of his broad and liberal humanism.
1969 Syedna undertook an extensive tour of South Africa where once Fatemi imams ruled between the 10 -12 centuries.
1970 Syedna established the first college, Burhani College of Commerce and Arts, in Mumbai. At present, there are over 400 primary and higher level educational institutes across the world under the administration of Syedna.
1975 Raudat Tahera, the mausoleum of Syedna Taher Saifuddin, was built by Syedna as a mark of eternal love and gratitude to his father. The then President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed inaugurated it.
1978 Syedna was awarded the title of ‘Vishah un-Neel’ (Order of the Nile ), by theEgyptian government.
1979 Syedna convened al-Multaqa al-Fatemi al-Ilmi, a landmark event in the annals of Dawat.
1980 Syedna restored Al-Jame al-Anwar in Egypt, the fourth largest Masjid in the world built by Imam Hakim (AS) in 981 A.D. He also established the Burhani Qardan Hasana Trust (interest-free loan) scheme as per Quranic principles.
1982 In appreciation of his noble services to the cause of humanity, His Royal Highness, the late King Hussein of Jordan honoured Syedna with the highest civilian award of ‘Order of the Star of Jordan ’(First Rank).
1983 Syedna inaugurated the new campus of Al-Jamea tus-Saifiyah in Karachi,Pakistan.
1988 The Governor of Punjab (Pakistan) presented Syedna with the honour ‘The Golden Key of Lahore’.
1991 Burhani Foundation (India) was established in commemoration of the 80th birthday of Syedna.
1992 The Mayor of Chittagong (Bangladesh), acknowledging his services, presented Syedna with ‘The Golden Key of the City’.
1996 A number of cities in the US and Canada like San Jose, Houston, Dallas, Irving and Richmond Hill, proclaimed Syedna as Honorary Citizen.
1998 He inaugurated a new complex - Mahad al-Zahra, a state-of-the-art institute for the memorization of Quran at Al-Jamea tus-Saifiyah, the 200-year-old Arabic academy in Surat.
1999 Syedna became Chancellor of Alighar Muslim University .
2001 Syedna was honoured with a Reception at the House of Lords in London, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
2003 He established Burhani Medical Idarah, which organizes health awareness programmes world over.
2004 The University of Karachi, Pakistan, conferred a Degree of ‘Doctor of Letters’ on Syedna.
2005 Syedna reconstructed the 259-bed, multispecialty Saifee Hospital in Mumbai, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
2007 The Mayor of Houston, USA presented him a Proclamation declaring Monday, May 7, 2007, as ‘His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Day’.
2008 British Prime Minister Gordon Brown warmly received Syedna at 10, Downing Street.
2009 He envisioned the redevelopment of thickly populated Bhendi Bazaar area. It will help
uplift over 4,000 families. Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) intends to turn this vision into reality. In the same year, Syedna restored, reconstructed and inaugurated the spectacular Al-Masjid al-Moazzam bil-Kufa in Iraq. It is here that Maula Ali bin Abi Talib (SA) was martyred.
